An elongated 10 mile long island just off the mainland, some fifteen
miles from Phi Phi. Almost the entire island is fringed by long
sandy beaches offering a multitude of secure anchorages.
Tourism was until recently an almost unknown thing on Ko Lanta but
now it has several small scale bungalow resorts scattered along
the shores, the large majority of them catering for back packer-
type travellers. They all have simple restaurants with them and
a visiting yachtsman is always welcome. In the North of Ko Lanta
a mangrove creek cuts right trhough the island , it and the adjacent
mangrove forests make for excellent exploring by dinghy or kayak.
